A burial mound is an artificial mound of earth and stones that is built over a grave or a set of graves. Mounds are a common form of burial in many ancient cultures, and are usually surrounded by a circular structure of stone or wood. Mounds can be small or huge, depending on the era and culture that built them. Some burial mounds are very old and are more than 5000 years old. Archaeologists study burial mounds to learn more about ancient cultures and their burial practices.
In the Basque Country we are lucky to enjoy a multitude of these archaeological sites, if they interest you and you want to discover them, I invite you to accompany me on a hiking route where you can discover them.
